What Triggers a DSC Home Alarm System?

When a DSC home alarm system triggers, it is due to a potential threat or technical difficulty with the alarms. The alarm will trigger and alert the local authorities if there is a threat in your home.

The alarm senses danger if someone breaks windows, steals items, or leaves dirty footprints throughout the home. Once the alarm triggers, the owner needs to reset the system in the property.

Along with intruders, a DSC home alarm system alerts the owner of technical difficulties. If you notice a yellow trouble light on your DSC alarm, something is wrong with the system. The system lets you know whether it’s a power outage or phone line problem with a number.

Whatever the problem, you need to check for any signs of intruders around your property before diagnosing a technical issue. Your DSC system may be signaling a potential threat inside of your home.

Resetting an alarm system is a straightforward process that requires knowledge of your system’s master code. The master code is critical to remember, as it proves you are the owner resetting the alarm.

On most DSC alarm systems, there is a reset button that you press after you enter your master code twice. However, you may also press [*] and [7][2] if your system doesn’t have a reset button on the keypad.

After following these steps, your system should reset and turn red to green. The system may detect an alarm condition if an alarm sensor doesn’t reset. When the sensor resets, the alarm resets normally and will activate if a threat is on the property.

Conclusion

Knowing how to reset your DSC home alarm system is a crucial skill as an owner. Whenever the alarm triggers, you can successfully reset the system quickly. However, the alarm may also alert you of potential trouble conditions, so you should pay attention.

With these things in mind, you can turn off that annoying chirping sound and restore a more peaceful home!

  1. I bought this house years ago. I don’t think I ever got the code. And I don’t know where the previous owners are. My old dsc alarm just keeps beeping. Any suggestions?

    • If you don’t have the user code, master code or installers code for the DSC alarm system, you have limited options on reprogramming. I would suggest you to contact a local DSC dealer or installer who could help you troubleshoot and set up the intrusion alarm for your request as a local alarm without central monitoring. If you want to stop the beeping and keep the DSC alarm off, you can remove the power supply in the control panel.
